the hard truth

the hard truth

When I read this post on LinkedIn by my friend Arezoo, it was a punch in the gut.

But a good kind.

“I’m sorry (not sorry) but organizations hiring for full-time positions with $50k salaries might just come forward and say we’re okay with our employees living in poverty at this point. If you can’t pay your employees a living wage you don’t have enough funding to?hire people.

As a former nonprofit founder I understand how hard it is to secure sustainable funding but at some point you gotta draw a line. Also bigger nonprofits, prepare to give your employees inflation/recession raises.”

Our sector has a history of exploiting our staff. As a whole, we take advantage of the fact that most of us work in this sector because we’re driven by our hearts to make change.

But this is not sustainable. And it’s not doing our missions any justice.

Today on the podcast I’m joined by? Nic (Nicole) Gagliardi , an innovator and changemaker in the nonprofit sector with over 10 years of experience leading small nonprofits and we are diving into this issue.

If you’re tired of watching your nonprofit's most passionate and dedicated employees leave due to burnout and exhaustion OR if you want to be a different type of leader than the ones that came before you,?this episode?is for you.

Keep up the good work,

Cindy

This is one of the many reasons why I left my FT nonprofit job to start consulting. I had to make a living and pay for daycare -- but I still very much care about helping make a change in the world.

I remember reading that quote as well. Very powerful and I am glad more attention is being given to this problematic practice.
