In a society that really does a subpar job(in my opinion) taking care of our elderly there are HUGE concerns that face us all in the future. Nursing home care/assisted living has exploded in our communities as the boomers try to take care of their parents and as they become the overwhelming increasing population that will use these services in the next 20 years.
Not only is there an incredible cost to this(and rising annually), the emotional aspects of families are more telling. Who's going to take care of mom? when? Where? Who lives the closest? Do you have a calendar printed up with the 56 three hour periods in a week that have to be filled in to assist your loved one.
This is an issue we will ALL deal with one way or the other. Very simply...you can self insure and pay retail or it can come from your retirement account(pay taxes) and pay a premium or you can get insurance and pay at a discount. It's your choice.....
Have you had this conversation with loved ones? No....not an easy conversation but necessary.
