Happy Valentine's Day
So, was thinking about a Valentine's Day design to post on a digital billboard a few weeks ago, and that got me thinking… and writing. The above isn't anything we actually posted out on the streets, but thought it was worth sharing.
Happy Valentine's Day is something we say once a year and is said with some degree of insincerity for the most part. It's basically just a different way of saying "Hi" for that one day on February 14th. It has become somewhat of a "Greeting Card" holiday where we feel obligated to get a gift of some sort for the ones we love, and sometimes ones we just kind of like. But when we dive deeper into the namesake of this holiday, we can grow to appreciate why it even exists in the first place. Saint Valentine, a 3rd century Roman clergyman died in the name of love. He was imprisoned after he was caught marrying Christian couples, and then later put to death on February 14, 269 when he refused to renounce his faith. That is love. if you look at any religion, race, or sex, you can find millions of examples of how people have given their entire self for others. These acts of kindness and love happen every day, and are what have shaped our lives… it honestly is the most beautiful thing about humanity. Think about it, how many songs and movies are made about dying for a loved one. Those songs and movies stir our souls… make us instantly think of those we would die for. Even going beyond that, inspiring us to just simply do the right thing… step out, be bold, speak up for someone we love, or even someone we don't know for the sake of love. So this Valentine's Day, my home is that everyone has fun giving their sweet, romantic, goofy, and not so goofy gifts to each other, but more importantly remembering the sacrifices others have made so we can have the freedom to share gifts of love with the people that have made an impact in our life, whom we truly cherish.
