Today is Labor Day! According to the Department of Labor, Labor Day “constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.”
I wonder how many people think about the purpose of today. I wonder how many people care about the meaning of today besides having the day off of work. Do you celebrate the contributions of workers or do you just celebrate the fact that you don’t have to go to work? Many people will still be working today as an opportunity to take advantage of all of us who are NOT working.
Given the poor job we are doing of really embracing the meaning of Labor Day, perhaps we should just call it Unlabor Day if it means nothing more than a day off.
Today, take a moment to honor the contributions that we all make (and have made) to this nation.
