Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving

November is my favorite holiday. Thanksgiving. I try to kid myself that it's, for once, not about shopping in the US but let's face it Black Friday followed by CyberMonday where we collectively break the internet. We can't help ourselves. Capitalism at its finest.

Thanksgiving is a kind of wholesome holiday. I love that we actually spend the entire day cooking and drinking (after the ‘Turkey Trot’ of course) - in the US that's quite a thing - most families eat out several times a week and have a bunch of food delivered the rest of the time - I love that we make the kids tell us something that they're grateful for at the dinner table, and sure they roll their eyes, but they will do the same nauseating thing to their own kids when it's their turn. Mark my turkey timer.

The simple pleasure of company. The joy of reflection. Nothingness. The calm before the final hustle to Christmas. The feeling of a new year just around the corner without the freneticism that comes with it. This year having been through another year of pandemic, amended plans, no visits home and another set of friends and family lost to the circle of life. At this point most of us have had our turn at lockdown, false sense of security, been blindsided, had govt support run out, had work as we know it rearranged like deck chairs on the Titanic, now in competition with, well everyone. We are all doing things differently now, dressing differently, thinking differently.?

This year on Thanksgiving I am a different person. I think we have all been through too much now to be exactly the same - health was taken away, physical connection was blocked, freedoms were stripped away, our differences exploited and the only constant was egomaniac leaders who prevail despite the conditions.? But in those voids and as is always the way - the space allows a vacuum for newness to rush in - for new green shoots to take hold, a fresh start, a clean slate, a new perspective.

Our cages have been rattled and the superfluous flung wide. Many of us feel reduced to our core. Our essential elements and yet we are gifted the choice to rebuild.? It is my great hope this Thanksgiving you experience that fresh start. A newly prioritized life just how you like it, and that you get exactly what you deserve, with the people you want in your life, doing the things you love to do. That you stop with the false gods. That you start with the dreams and most of all that you know it's all going to be alright. And you're awesome. And I love you.?

Happy Thanksgiving.
