This question posed by my friend Grace Asphall on her FaceBook page today? Was Jesus a politician? If so, what kind of politician was he?
I then rephrased: "If Jesus was on earth today, what kind of politician would he be?". What would be he saying about the #Black Lives Matter Movement? What would he be saying about the killing of Black men in the streets of America? My parents used to say to us if we tell a lie. "I do not see you but God sees you." To get any justice today? A big thanks to the cell phone.
We always like to say "we are good but other people are bad. We are Christians and we would never do that. look at those horrible people rioting etc." I am weighing in on the question posed by a friend on Facebook today. "If Jesus was on earth What kind of politician would he be?" What would he do? WWJD? A part of my answer can be found in Psalm 10:2 which tells us that in his arrogance the wicked man hunts down the weak, who are caught in the schemes he devises.
In the 80's I lived in Jamaica which was torn by political divide. It was a paternalistic environment because many people would vote for a certain political party because of perceived benefit. I went to one of the depressed areas called "Grants Pen" where there was a lot of rioting and burning and I said to one of the men. "Why are you burning down the place?" He said that no one will listen, and they have nothing to lose...they will burn it down and build it up again.
THIS IS SAD: For all those who are judging my BLACK brothers in the US, remember that our time on this earth is limited. Use it wisely. Systemic RACISM is real. The fact that you will even deny a man a job or prevent him from earning a living because of how he looks is despicable. There is no point fanning the flames of hate. What are we going to do with all the wealth we amass and hoard by denying others opportunities? The man who steals and pillage is no worse than that employer who denies someone an opportunity because of his race, ethnicity and the color of his skin (whether they are black, brown or blue). That employer just stole from the person who is seeking to earn a livelihood. We do not come into this earth with anything and we will go with nothing. We need to ask ourselves? Is it worth it? What is it to gain the whole world and lose our soul? #difficultconversations #Blacklivesmatter #Racerelations #slavery #discrimination
