Happy or Successful? Why not Both?
I read a very interesting article by Travis Chambers entitled Having Children Destroyed My Career (but saved my life) in which he spoke about appearing to have it all; career, money & sense of achievement. Once his daughter arrived however he realised that work had taken over his life and decided to set up his own business to regain control.
There are many parts of this story I can relate to in my own life but which I also see time and time again with jobseekers and their motivations to change jobs and careers. Many people get to a point in their careers where they cannot easily change without a substantial loss of income or status. It really highlights the importance of trying to ensure that your job or chosen career is something you really enjoy. We don’t want to be that person, whose friends and family comment that work always comes first, but once they have left that employer the show still goes on and they are just another or many ex-employees.
Seek an employer where you can have a work life balance, can make a difference to your company and help shape your own job within that company and most of all can look back when you are older and say that you were happy working there with no regrets!
