Happy Small Business Month

It's October, the leaves are changing colour, the evenings and mornings are cool, the day is warm, you're not sure if you need the heat or the air conditioning,

And it’s also Small Business Month in Canada!

A whole month dedicated to celebrating you, the fearless entrepreneurs who support our local economy, community, and our families.

There are a lot of events happening this month so take advantage and expand your network. You never know who you could meet.

And if you're shy or introverted, here's a tip: people love talking about themselves, whether they acknowledge it or not, so have a question about their role or their experience ready, find someone you feel you could connect with, and open the conversation.

Make sure the question is open-ended so it can get them talking: versus one with a yes or no answer.

And have a few follow up questions prepared.

Here are some sample questions and follow up questions that you're free to use:

1. What was the best thing that happened to you this week?
2. What inspired you to start your business?
3. What exciting project are you working on?

Networking can be uncomfortable but the more you practice, the better and more comfortable you'll get.
