Happy Sea Day !
SEGO Initiative
Creating hands-on projects and programs to raise awareness about the challenges facing the ocean and us.
Happy Umi No Hi !
Happy Sea Day!
On a day like today, everyone wants to run to water !
With one record after another being broken,?heatwaves, and extreme precipitation? have been steadily increasing. We have indeed?“earned our stripes” ... unfortunately!
?The Ocean absorbs over 90 percent of this excess heat. Thanks to water, we only feel 1 percent.
So we have to quickly learn how to “un-earn" those stripes and help the Ocean,?our Planet’s?major cooling system from indefinitely overheating.?And?there’s so much to learn.?**
June 8 was the United Nations World Oceans Day - a time, like today …and everyday… to put the focus on the sea.?
At SEGO Initiative,?we started our World Oceans Tokyo campaign with a “Happy UN World Oceans Day!” night-time digital projection in two of the busiest thoroughfares in?Tokyo ( Aoyama Dori and Meiji Dori) .?
This is a short video from Street Vision Inc. the digital projection company who supported us.
Our World Oceans Tokyo is an UNESCO endorsed Ocean Decade Activity that also included webinar sessions, our learning circles, during the month of June. We were joined by Marin Naruse, a young musician from Amami ōshima, Dr. David Costalago, Marine Researcher in the Science and Strategy Division of Oceana and Ms. Runa Ray, Fashion Designer and Ocean Environmental Advocate.?
