HAPPY POETRY IS A CONUNDRUM
Happy poetry is a conundrum
Poems are a dime a dozen
Six for a nickel and a dill pickle
But I can let you have some for a song
As long as you promise not to sing along
I'm neither a poet nor a sports fan. I'm a news junkie. But since sports are ever present in the news, I can’t help but observe the sports phenomenon and marvel at its boundless energy, at its drive to win, literally, at all costs and, above all, at its ability to create excitement and engage vast numbers of people.
Because it is so quintessentially Canadian, hockey, in particular, has been in my sights and on my sites most recently and I couldn’t help thinking that if we as Canadians were to invest hearts and minds and funds in Canadian research and development as we do in hockey, what an amazing technical and intellectual global powerhouse this country could be instead of the polite “me too” it currently is.
R and D could do all that. Why don’t we get on with it? Maybe we should sing along.
