Happy Pi Day!
EnCorps - STEM Teachers
EnCorps Educators ignite a passion for STEM in middle and high school students in under-resourced communities.
Happy PI Day!! Let the celebrations begin!! But what exactly is PI???
Pi Day was founded by Physicist Larry Shaw in 1988. Pi can calculate the circumference of a circle by measuring the diameter — the distance straight across the circle's middle — and multiplying that by the 3.14-plus number.
It is considered a constant number and it is also infinite, meaning it is mathematically irrational. Long before computers, historic scientists such as Isaac Newton spent many hours calculating decimal places by hand. Today, using sophisticated computers, researchers have come up with trillions of digits for pi, but there is no end.

How are our STEM students celebrating?
- Some Elementary school students are trying to memorize as much of this math constant as they can to WIN a free pie!
- Other students are making their own pizza's and taking them home to bake with their family.
- An 8th grade class we know is creating a "Pi Playlist" that consists of either the mention of "Pie" or a "Pi" reference!
