Happy New Year! Let's all breathe in that fresh, new year scent. It's a new beginning and a time for fresh starts.
One way to get a fresh start is to begin positioning yourself as a thought leader. The great thing about thought leadership is that when done correctly, it opens up all kinds of possibilities.
So what's a thought leader?
A thought leader is someone who's considered an expert and an authority on a specific subject. People come to thought leaders for advice and guidance. People want to know what thought leaders have to say.
Can anyone be a thought leader?
Sure! And, bonus: thought leadership has the potential to drastically improve your opportunities!

If you're not yet a thought leader, the first place to start is to ask yourself where your area of expertise lies. If you don't have a niche just yet, start thinking about it. Think strategically - what specific area in your industry would be the thing that would be most likely to accelerate your career growth?
Once you've identified your niche, you can start crafting a list of topics around that niche that you could speak on or write about. Then start writing some sample LinkedIn posts.
Look around at other thought leaders to see how they frame their posts, think about what you'd do differently, and get started writing or recording.
Over time, with consistency, you'll find that others begin to perceive you as a thought leader and you'll start seeing opportunities coming in. That's one of the most beautiful things about thought leadership - it positions you in your organization as a mover and a shaker, and it also positions you outside the organization so that others want to poach you.
Being desirable in a competitive job market is always a good thing. There's no time like the present! Start thinking about your thought leadership today.
