Happy New Year: The Power of A Teacher...

As we here in New Jersey are about to embark on another school year please remember the potential power that you have as a teacher!!

Tracy Kidder- Among School Children describes our power this way:

"Teachers usually have no way of knowing that they have made a difference in a child's life, even when they have made a dramatic one. But for children who are used to thinking of themselves as stupid or not worth talking to or deserving rape and beatings, a good teacher can provide an astonishing revelation. A good teacher can give a child at least a chance to feel, " She (he) thinks I'm worth something. Maybe I am."

Good teachers put snags in the river of children passing by, and over the years, they redirect hundreds of lives.

Many people find it easy to imagine unseen webs of malevolent conspiracy in the world, and they are not always wrong.  But there is also an innocence that conspires to hold humanity together, and it is made up of people who can never fully know the good they have done.

Have a great school year and do know there are many students waiting to be caught in your net as they pass by!

Travel the year hopefully!

Inspire, Connect... Listen...so a student feels heard. Sometimes that's all it takes to facilitate a successful day of learning

Wishing you a great school year! It is my hope that we, teaching professionals, teach individuals not tests. As we start this school year, remember that we can not put, nor do we need put a quantifiable number on the positive interactions we have with students! Isn't motivating students to be their personal best why we became teachers?
