Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

New year, new me? I doubt.

It's been a year since I wrote down my thoughts, and it's not just another dad joke. Will I stick to a plan this year? Nope! Will I share random info I find, hoping teachers notice? Definitely! Will the way we teach English change? I don't think so.

When I started in teaching, I just wanted to be the kind of teacher I never had. That's still my main goal. But over the years, I've seen people doing amazing things to make a difference, and I thought I could do that too.

And after almost 10 years of teaching, I've realized something true for life in general. Money makes the world come round. If something is making money, why change it? Even if science says we should do things differently, who cares? We're making money.

Sure, we like new tech stuff like 3D design, AI, and Escape Rooms. We're all about being high-tech. But convincing other teachers that there are better ways to teach is tough. The stuff we're using now sells, so that's what we'll keep doing. And changing how parents see education? Not likely. We'll stick to what non-teachers say: teach our kids the same way we were taught.

I might sound a bit pessimistic, but meeting my own expectations is tough. I've always dreamed of schools being great at creating English language users. I wanted the challenge to be about coming up with creative ways to teach. But for now, the winner is the one teaching like it's still 1999!
