Happy National Social Work Month!

In honor of National Social Work Month, I want to acknowledge and thank our Social Work Team for their hard work, dedication, empathy, and advocacy displayed daily in the Family Defense Unit. Our social work staff are unsung heroes.?

This year’s theme for Social Work Month is Social Work Breaks Barriers. Each day our social work team continues to help break barriers that prevent parents from reunification with their children. On a personal level, our social work staff assists parents in overcoming personal crises such as housing, mental health, and substance abuse. Our social work staff also advocates on a systems level to ensure policies are implemented, parents’ rights are not violated, and to reduce the number of unnecessary removals in black and brown families.?

Our social worker and family advocates bring tremendous value to Legal Services, not only to our parents but also to our staff. Most importantly, they provide a voice for those who are voiceless and ensure they are connected to resources and support when needed.?

Also, in honor of National Social Work Month, Legal Services will have its first Social Work Intern starting this month!?
