It’s time to cheer, since National Dog Day is here! We salute the endless love that canines bring to our lives. For your wonderful pooch is a big part of your family.
If you don’t have the pleasure of a dog’s company, why not adopt one from a homeless shelter? Whether it’s big or small, a pedigree or a mixed breed, you will be helping a dog in need.
It could be a shelter doggie’s winsome eyes or its sweet head tilt that start to melt your heart. During this difficult time, it might lift you up to have the devotion of a terrific canine.
Or perhaps you can purchase a wonderful pooch from a reputable breeder.
Where do I begin as to how many ways amazing dogs pitch in? Our four-legged friends keep us safe when they are used in emergency services work, and support disabled, blind, and deaf people. They are even used to help veterans with PTSD.
Dogs are so loyal to their humans and don’t ask for much in return, but their love.
Why not treat your canine cutie to a relaxing tactile experience at home, or buy something special for her or him? You can give it a bath, a soothing massage, and of course, many rubs. Top it off with your pet’s favorite treats.
Simone, the Park Avenue poodle, honors National Dog Day with this tribute. She dictated it to her dog walker’s I-phone; Frank understands poodle talk.
“Even though I’m a pampered poodle, courtesy of my humans, Raymond and Grace, I have a lot to say on this very important day:
I'm very proud to be a canine and think we're mighty fine.
Let's celebrate on this holiday that's great!
When you think of us dogs, what comes to mind? Is it our poodle hair, other pooches’ fur, our fluff, or additional stuff?
Is it our sweet faces or our inimitable grace?
Whether we’re girls or gents, dogs are intelligent.
In reference to me, Simone, is it my puffy pompoms, my Park Avenue poodle prance, or my preference for classical dance? I love watching on TV, ballet dancers do pirouettes, piques, grand jetes, and 32 fouettes -- Maybe I'll do them someday!
Is it the way I bark: ‘Goodbye’ or the twinkle in my eye?
Is it my desire to dine at a French café or my unequivocable presence, whether it’s night or day?
Is it my love for sushi or how I enjoy watching kids play Duck-Duck-Goosey?
Is it my enthusiasm for walks in Central Park or the sound of my melodic bark?
Do you admire that I’m a fashionista, who wears pretty frocks and matching bows, or is it the way my stylist, Lilly, paints my poodle toes? Can’t wait to get back to the doggie spa. Ahh . . .
Is it my amour for a sirloin steak bone, or the way I listen discreetly to you, Grace, talk on the phone?
Your troubles seem to fly away, when we jump up and greet you, if you’re away.
Now we see our pet moms and dads a lot more and get recognition galore. I really go for my folks doting on me; It makes me joyful as can be.
You may think what matters is: ‘What did you bring me? What’s in the bag?' While that might be partially true, what we want most is YOU!
You can give us on trend outfits, toys, fancy collars, and bacon treats. I, myself, love the scrumptious human eats.
You can buy us the best of the best, but there’s no contest.
What we want so much, the canines of the earth, is to know that we have undeniable worth.
Dog parents, here’s a simple recipe to have happy pooches: Give us lots of care and love. Mix in sweet talk. Sprinkle in yummy treats. Wrap us in blankets, when we're cold or wet. Shower us with hugs, pets, and throw in a paw rub or two, and we’ll do anything for you.
We will follow you, our humans, everywhere and make you feel like you don’t have a care.
There is something else I want to mention: Always give your furry friend a lot of care and attention.
National Dog Day is an important day to let your pooch know that it’s dear. But remember to love and take care of your canine every day of the year.
There is a good reason we’re known as ‘Man’s Best Friend,’ for we adore you, and on that you can depend.
I hope my words really warm your heart. One thing about us poodles: We're very smart.
We dogs understand more than you think we do, and we love to look up to you.
And I insist: ‘How can you resist?’
My humans, Raymond and Grace, are giving me a small soiree at our NYC apartment in honor of National Dog Day. Yay!
Ricardo, my handsome poodle beau, and Mojito, my Chihuahua walking partner, will be there. My pooch pals, Lexi, an English Sheepdog, who is my BFF (Best Furry Friend), and Charmaine, a Bichon, are coming with their pet moms.
Frank, our dog walker, will keep an eye on the pushy Mojito. The Chihuahua has the hots for the lovely and innocent Lexi. Frank has warned Mojito to stay away from her, but will he listen?
The Chihuahua can say 'Hi,' but he can’t do more. Mojito loves Lexi’s fur galore. Wants her to be one of his many wives. Granted Lexi's a Sheepdog looker, but Mojito is the craziest dog alive!
Jorge, our chef and Ricardo’s person, is making delicacies for us pooches. He's creating special canine cupcakes and cookies. And Jorge is even baking a peanut butter doggie cake!
I’m so excited to see the pooches and people that are invited!
I am all spruced up and ready to go. Now the festivities are starting, so I’ll prance, and do my joyful dance! Five, six, seven, and eight . . . Isn’t being a dog great?
Places, everyone, and have a lot of fun!
It’s pawty time and our chance to shine! Canines are sublime!
Happy National Dog Day 2020 to all dogs everywhere!"
