To be happy and more successful smart people avoid these 8 things.

To be happy and more successful smart people avoid these 8 things.

Every day we are inundated with advice about how to succeed, make more money, create better habits, and embrace better routines.

Much of the advice is offered by people that struggle, but they claim to have unlocked the secrets of success that can liberate your true potential.

I have seen plenty of “successful” people that have piles of money, but they are out of shape and estranged from their families.

I have met incredibly fit people that can't pay their bills but spend 6 hours a day at the gym, running, cycling and "staying fit".

True success for me has always been about financial freedom, ownership of my time and control over my professional destiny. In the top 1% socioeconomically is a small fraternity of people that create ebullience by leveraging fiscal responsibility, wise investment strategies, financial independence, control of their schedule and dept free living. It's also about strong relationships and being in the top 1% of the most physically fit people on the planet.

There’s plenty of things successful people do to achieve extraordinary success.? However, what they don’t do is equally as important.

“Failure is not falling down but refusing to get up.” - Chinese proverb

Here are 8 things successful people avoid doing to enjoy more success in life:

Thieves

Successful people refuse to let anyone interfere with their happiness. They resist social comparisons and avoid negativity at all costs.? They won’t let people apprehend their emotions and command their positive energy.? They don’t let emotional thieves hijack their joy and they refuse to let pessimists deplete their optimistic energy. They are incredibly selective about who they spend their time with.??

Lament

Successful people don’t wallow in self-pity, and they let go of painful experiences to move on and recreate a better reality.? They know how to forgive, and they don’t waste time overanalyzing situations that didn't pan out to their advantage. They don’t pardon their perpetrators, but they don’t dwell on painful experiences that inhibit their progress.

Perfection

Successful people learn to overcome perfectionism and appreciate human fallibility.? It makes them better people and much better leaders.? Many people struggle with perfection, and it prevents success by establishing a standard of perfection that is unattainable.? It also imposes unrealistic expectations on relationships, including family and intimate partners.? They focus on their BEST work not PERFECT work.

Ruminate

Successful people don’t dwell on past mistakes, and they learn from their setbacks.? The emphasis is always on growth, and they don’t spend time ruminating about the past.? That includes calculated risks that didn’t pay off, relationships that didn’t pan out and decisions that didn’t yield desired results.? They move on, grow and live to fight another day.? ?

?“You always pass failure on your way to success.” -Mickey Rooney

Obsess

Successful people learn to let go.? They don’t obsess over things they can’t control.? They don’t spend hours a day sparring with strangers on social media.? They take action and concentrate on overcoming obstacles by devising solutions.? Successful people refuse to offer their energy to futile endeavors that deplete their mental and emotional resources.???

Toxicity

Successful people understand the importance of surrounding themselves with quality individuals.? They refuse to commiserate with marginal people immersed in hatred and mindsets that create friction and division.? They pick their friends wisely and extricate negative people from their social circle.? Whinners, complainers, losers and excuse makers have no place in the company of champions.?

Harbor

Successful people learn to forgive for the benefit of releasing themselves from the negative emotions associated with harboring animosity.? Stress, anxiety, and health related problems increase when we harbor hard feelings.? Learning to let go takes effort, but the benefits are extraordinary.? Learning to release bad feelings or the need to get even will improve our health and increase our happiness.

Say yes!?

Successful people don’t say yes to everything.? In fact, they learn to say no to almost everything.? Research has shown that saying no reduces stress, burnout, and depression.? One study at the University of California Berkely determined saying no has enormous health benefits.? Successful people honor their commitments, they just think carefully before making commitments.?

“Successful people don’t fear failure but understand that it’s necessary to learn and grow from.” -Robert Kiyosaki
