Happy Labor Day from CercaTalent+
In years past, Labor Day has been all about capturing that last beach blast or boat cruise, backyard barbecues, retail bonanzas, relishing the start of the football season and agonizing over the grudging realization sea-soaked play days are fading with the sun. This year, it is likely to be quite a bit different, yet many will truly be doing all we can to capture a moment of peace or family togetherness while figuring new ways to do this all while staying safe.
Today, before firing up the coals, getting in or behind a boat, or sliding into a pool float, all appropriately distanced, of course, we ask you to join us in pausing for a moment to consider what it really means to have meaningful work to do and a day off to celebrate it.
Since 1894, the United States has celebrated Labor Day – honoring the social and economic achievements of American workers. It is our workers, each one, whose drive, determination, devotion, initiative and ingenuity make our nation as strong as it is today, and so it is true with all our companies – our staff is our greatest source of strength.
In 1890, many didn’t necessarily see it that way. Laborers were disposable, and working conditions were horrendous. The average work week, according to the Smithsonian, was over 70 hours, and it wasn’t uncommon to find five year olds toiling on the factory floors.
On Sept. 5, 1882 — a Tuesday — 10,000 workers took unpaid time off to march in a parade from City Hall to Union Square in New York City as a tribute to American workers. Organized by New York’s Central Labor Union, this peaceful protest was the country’s first unofficial Labor Day parade. Three years later, some city ordinances marked the first government recognition, and legislation soon followed in a number of states. In June of 1894, the US Congress made this day official for the entire country, set aside to honor those that truly make the country go and grow.
People are the greatest part of our companies. Each one reading this is the reason any organization thrives. It is through your dedication, skills, knowledge, focus and positive attitude that we delight our current and future customers. While we all strive to create an environment of mutual respect, continuous learning, open collaboration, constant improvement, innovation, and personal growth, it is your passion, persistence, preparation and perspiration that make our teams and nation great.
This Labor Day — the last 'hoorah' before the end of summer — we ask you to remember how much you mean to your team and its future. Celebrate the new way you are finding to create success. Rest, relax, recharge, refresh and come back refocused on creating incredible value.
We, at CercaTalent+, celebrate and honor you! Thank you for your continued great service and dedication to the causes you represent. We hope you have found ways to fill these three days with fantastic friends, family and fun. As you enjoy this last summer celebration, please stay safe.
