Happy International Women's Day! #IWD2022

ONLY 3% of females say a career in technology is their first choice. However, 78% of students can’t name a famous female working in technology.

We’re working actively to change this, to encourage more women to join the tech industry.

While we value every Splytter each day, on International Women’s Day, we want to celebrate the amazing women within Splyt!

As a company that values collaboration, all the women came together to celebrate this day and ourselves as women. Get to know a bit of the fantastic women at Splyt, all the contributions they’ve made to Splyt and what bias they hope gets broken. #breakthebias #womenintech

  • When do you feel most empowered??Usually, when I’m with my friends, particularly my female friends. They are all powerhouses, and I feel very privileged to know them and be myself around them.?
  • What bias do you hope gets broken??The bias that certain careers are for certain genders or types of people. As an example, I hope that we can leave terms like ‘businessman’, ‘fireman’ or ‘stewardess’ firmly in the past. Every single job title can be gender-neutral and therefore inclusive. I hope this type of vocabulary will be obsolete one day.?
  • Proudest moment at Splyt so far??Made three hires within my first month at Splyt and got really good feedback about them. I’ve been very fortunate to grow within my role at Splyt and with the company as we’ve scaled. But to me, that first month and the praise that I received will always be one of my proudest moments because it really gave me that burst of confidence and reassurance that this was a place and a role I could thrive in.???

  • When do you feel most empowered?:?When I accomplish the goals that I set for myself, when I take care of myself physically and mentally and when my students show excellent results in studying.?
  • What is your superpower??Ability to teleport: I value efficiency, have strong time management skills, and prioritise tasks. Flexibility: I am adaptable and ready to embrace new responsibilities or challenges. Strength and endurance: I enjoy challenges and use them as an opportunity to persevere.
  • What bias do you hope gets broken??Gender bias.
  • Proudest moment at Splyt so far??Launching the Intercity. It was the first project where I started to work after hiring. We did a great job with the development team.

  • When do you feel most empowered??When working with a great team - bouncing ideas off others always leads to new opportunities that you wouldn’t have explored otherwise!?
  • What is your superpower??Always staying positive and trying to see the funny side!?
  • What bias do you hope gets broken? The business world should have gotten rid of letters or documents addressed to ‘Dear Sirs’ long ago - I hate the implicit and clearly outdated assumption that senior business members are male!
  • Best part of your role at Splyt? Getting to work with colleagues from all parts of the business and learn from the challenges we’ve faced as the business grows. We work at such a fast pace that there’s always some new and unexpected problem to solve!??

  • When do you feel most empowered??When I can lift others as I rise. The word “impossible” to me is just a state of mind. Breaking through stereotypes/ limiting beliefs and accomplishing whatever I set my mind to whilst encouraging and inspiring others along their journey.
  • What is your superpower??Being authentic no matter the weather. This gives me a strong grounding in who I am and what I represent and not trying to fit the mould to belong.
  • What bias do you hope gets broken??Cheerful and energetic does not equal strong business know-how. Leaders come in various forms and IF glitter and pink is your style - rock it all the way to the top.
  • Proudest moment at Splyt so far??Experiencing and working with a leadership team that puts people first (not lip service) but constantly raises the bar to deliver the best to our employees globally. SAY_ACT_DO!

Vineela, QA Engineer in Singapore

  • When do you feel most empowered??Freedom is the biggest and most valuable power anyone could have. I feel more empowered if I get whatever I want, however I want and wherever I go. When I connect with my friends and we discuss life.
  • What is your superpower??Being optimistic and kind.
  • What bias do you hope gets broken??Gender stereotype perception about attributes or characteristics/ roles that men or women should take. Some communities even limit women to have careers and run household chores throughout their lives. They are not encouraged to communicate with opposite genders, making them introverts. In addition to this, they are not allowed to decide with freedom. These situations should improve with awareness of having broad minds.
  • Proudest moment at Splyt so far??Without automation experience, I got involved in 4 projects and successfully automated testing flows. I am also proud to be part of a diverse family.

  • When do you feel most empowered? Completing all the challenging tasks within the timelines.?
  • What is your superpower? Time management and having a second stomach for desserts!?
  • What bias do you hope gets broken? Gender, culture and religious bias.?
  • Best part of your role at Splyt? Working in a global company and connecting with different people from all around the world.

Amy, HR Operations Manager in London, UK??

  • When do you feel most empowered??When challenged and trusted to make decisions and take responsibility for projects, make a real difference.??
  • What is your superpower??Staying calm and positive.??
  • What bias do you hope gets broken??Positional bias and removing the glass ceiling - each employee, regardless of gender, should be able to reach as high as possible, given their skills and performance.???
  • Best part of working at Splyt??The variety of what I’m exposed to and the opportunity to explore different cultures. And, of course, the incredible people I get to work with!?
