Happy Wednesday everyone, I hope you’ve had a lovely week so far! It’s been a hectic few weeks to say the least since launching but I couldn’t miss the launch to create an International Women’s Day centred issue ?????

Today we celebrate the achievements and contributions of women around the world. We acknowledge the progress we've made towards gender equality and recognize the work that still needs to be done to ensure that every woman has the opportunity to succeed.?

With that in mind I want to start off by saying that if you’re a young woman reading this who is or wants to go into marketing, I’m celebrating you today and I hope that this newsletter can help you.?

So let’s get into it!! Get comfy because I’ve got lots to say ???

Today I’m speaking about an incredible campaign launched by Always in 2014, called #LikeAGirl ?

What does like a girl means to you??

Always undertook research that revealed 72% of girls feel society limits them with a majority of them feeling that societal pressure to be perfect drives their fear of failure.?

So why is it that we use the phrase like a girl as an insult??

Always challenged the idea that running, throwing or doing anything like a girl is bad, shining a light on how women are continuously demoralised and patronised by a simple turn of phrase.?

Being a woman doesn’t make you any less successful or less able to succeed and it’s about time that a brand used their platform to show young girls that they are valuable.?

I hope to see more brands using their voice, not only today but every day to fight for this cause! ???

?With this being a special day of course I have a fantastic guest feature. Meet Trina, founder of Juiced ??. I love the way that Trina speaks openly about her journey as a young female founder and freelancer. I am so proud of her and very excited to be able to share her advice with you all!!?

“If you’re going freelance or starting a business, you need to back yourself. Comparison can be an easy trap to fall into but obsessing over what everyone else is doing will only waste your time and energy. Keep your focus on your business, your clients/audience AND YOU!

The jump to self-employment can be overwhelming, so it’s important make sure you set boundaries, take breaks, and look after your mental wellness.?

I’d definitely recommend connecting with other people in the same boat as you and trying out coworking. And there’s no shame in asking for help - you can’t expect to be able to do and know everything.?

To everyone new to their business journey, I wanna say a massive well done and I can’t wait to see all of us succeed ????”?

I couldn’t agree with Trina more, it’s so easy to compare yourself to others and make yourself feel small but don’t be scared to collaborate and to reach out! For more from Trina the links to her socials are below!?

This week’s advice is to do one thing a day you enjoy!?

I work from home and often I go to take a break only find myself tidying or replying to comments on my posts???

So my advice is to not just take breaks to do things you have to or would just do later in the day. Make sure to have a genuine break and do one thing a day that you enjoy.?

This could be going on a lovely walk or even just treating yourself to a cup of tea and an episode of your favourite show ??

Inspired by the fantastic campaign I spoke about earlier, my prompt is to play your part in reframing the way we see failure.?

Failing isn’t bad!! Yes it can feel upsetting, but ultimately it’s a chance to learn and grow.?

Speak to your audience about a time you failed and how you learnt from it, perhaps everything turned out for the best or you ended up taking a different route.?

One of my fail stories is actually my driving tests, I did not pass first time and actually encountered some very unusual situations (I’m talking having to go up onto the pavement kind of unusual??). At the time is was horrible but I kept trying and became much more confident by the time I did pass. I definitely feel that it ended up for the best!!?

I look forward to hearing your stories, use #DiaryOfAYoungMarketer as I would love to see.?

Have a lovely rest of the day???

Speak soon!?
