Happy International Women's Day

On this 8th of March, we want to highlight the importance of gender parity in the drone industry and innovation tech overall.

At Globhe , our core lies in innovation, inclusion, and sustainability. Our founder, Helena Samsioe , recognized the possibilities of drone technology and the innovative solutions it brings to the challenges we collectively face today - and founded Globhe .

For International Women's Day 2025 , the United Nations raises extra awareness of how STEM jobs are heavily male-dominated, that includes the drone industry, and the implications this has on our development.

By 2050, 75% of jobs will be related to STEM areas, according to the World Economic Forum 2018 report. However, today women hold just 22% of positions in the AI industry; it's unclear what the exact numbers are for the drone industry.

The gender imbalance is mirrored in the use of drones and the thought leadership in the industry. We decided to ask our Head of Drones Global, Margherita Bruscolini , about her thoughts on the subject.

Why is it important to include more women on all levels of the drone industry??

Diversity, and gender-equity in the geospatial and drone industry is needed to broaden the horizons and get different perspectives and representation. There's room for everyone motivated to innovate in this industry. Bringing in new perspectives and open-minded approaches to find creative solutions can only be beneficial for our development.

What made you interested in drones and working in the industry, to begin with??

I have always been fascinated by the power of technologies and innovations to solve environmental issues and wanted to explore related scientific fields, such as geology, environmental and climate sciences.

What use case/impact mission are you the most passionate about??

I’m passionate about multi-disciplinary approaches using innovation to develop sustainable and long-lasting, and creative solutions. The use cases I’m the most enthusiastic about are focused on tackling climate change-related issues and have the potential to create a positive impact. It can be projects related to extreme weather events like drought or flood mapping and modeling to mitigate the effects of floods, increase preparedness, and improve the resilience of the affected communities. At Globhe , I get to work on these kinds of projects all the time and it's really amazing to feel make a difference every day.
