Happy International Education Week!

It’s International Education Week, and I want to take a few minutes to recognize the incredible impact everyone in the industry continues to have on the world around us!?

Back in March, I was reminiscing over the fact that it's been 10 years since Massi and I arrived in Canada as international students. It’s been a great journey and we’re so grateful for all of the opportunities we’ve had since graduating in Canada. I still can’t believe what ApplyBoard has been able to accomplish in six years. We wouldn’t be where we are today without the help of our incredible ApplyBoardians, inspiring institutions, dedicated recruitment partners, and investors that continue to believe in our mission to #EducateTheWorld.

As we celebrate the impact of international students around the world, I want to share some incredible statistics I unearthed while writing my recent ApplyInsights article, The Economic Impact of International Students on Top Destination Markets:?

• One-quarter of the founders of $1 billion US startups are international students.
• One in every four small-to-medium-sized Canadian businesses is owned or run by immigrants, and nearly half of those businesses have introduced at least one type of innovation in the last decade.
• One in every five university students in the UK in the 2018/2019 academic year was an international student.

International students are driving key developments around the world, and I’m so proud that ApplyBoard has had a role in making this happen. Research has shown that these students are more likely to innovate, invest in research and development, and become entrepreneurs than native-born citizens. International students not only build a better future for themselves, but their knowledge and experience enriches the economies and cultures of the countries they graduate in. Their tremendous impact in the global community shouldn’t be disregarded.?

As we continue to rebound from a challenging couple years, it’s important that we recognize the incredible impact international students have and think about how they can help aid in the larger economic recovery. Let’s all come together in 2022 to solve hardships faced by international students to help enable more education journeys than ever before.
