Hello My Dear Business Community,
Team KDC hope and pray you all to be safe and protected from the prevailing condition in the world and Sri Lanka.
As we know most of you started working from home which may be a new experience for most of you and your co-workers in life and career. You have a bigger responsibility to protect your company as well as the country since we cannot keep a full stop in our journey.
We would like to bring few very effective tips for employees and business leaders who start working from home (working remote from your office), to make your effort more comfortable and productive until you return your loving real office environment.
- Prepare your mind to accept this as a short term move. Think... Think... Think... Accept... Implement... for your own growth.
- Start the day at the same time as you start a usual day where you have to go to your real office. BUT, now you have more time left since no travelling. Make use of the time. Do some physical and mental exercises to bring you more energy. Be connected with the nature by moving out from the house and connecting with fresh air and green. Have few cycles of deep breathing.
- You have more time, because you save your travelling time. Plan the day work. Get a "things to do" list for the day. Do not overload. Be mindful, when you are at home, you cannot completely isolate from your family for the entire day. This may be one of the most happiest moment your family members since you are visible for them.
- Have a good conversation with your family about your new approach. See how they can be supportive. Remember... kids might love it. Get them in. Now they are your co-workers at their limits. Important... they may/may-not be capable on the subject you and real co-workers are specialized. Be mindful, let them support with their interest and not with your power. Never force them to complete any of the task what you suppose to complete.
- Bring office atmosphere. Arrange a location for you. Remember, your bed is NOT the place for your office work. Arrange a table and chair which is much comfortable and less distract from others. Make sure you have data, voice and power throughout.
- Use technology. This is one of the most important aspect to improve your efficiency since 80% of our business life involve with some way of communication. Compile all your work in to soft versions and validate through e-signatures. Safety purpose, never use shared e-mail when using your digital signature to validate important documents. Use online tools such as, online meetings, very simple online banking, ordering and communicate all suppliers and supportive services that you are contactable. They do not need to feel that you are working from home. This is the digital era. Each location you sit is your office.
- Video conferencing will help you to motivate your team and other co-workers those who are working from home. Get everyone in to the same platform of working. Let them feel how you have converted your home in to your mini office. Lead through example. Voice is usual BUT video will bring higher motivation.
- Manage deadlines. NO, much rules with your family, but be mindful with your timing. Overspending your working time for lunch, evening nap, playing outside will distract your ultimate goals of converting your table for office. Be focus.
- Review your day. First day might be a new feeling and new experience for you which is common. Second day will be a fully geared office in home for you as your environment also feels your vibes.
- All in all, You must invest very little or Zero money for this short term move.
Accept changes positively. Show your co-workers that you are adaptable to any condition of the business environment.
Good luck
