As the year draws to a close, I just wanted to take this opportunity to wish you and yours a wonderful festive season and a safe, healthy & Happy New Year!
During this time of celebration, we can often become a little reflective, so I thought this story?would be suitable...
The Monk and the Butterfly
High in the Himalayan mountains lived a wise old monk.
Periodically, the monk ventured down into the local village to entertain the villagers with?their special knowledge and talents. One of the monks' skills was to psychically tell the villagers the contents of their pockets, boxes, or minds.
A child from the village decided to play a joke on the wise old?monk and discredit the monk's special abilities.
The?child came up with an elaborate plan to capture a butterfly and hide it in?their hands.
The child knew that the monk would know what was being held. But the?child planned to then ask the?monk if the butterfly was dead or alive. If the?monk said the butterfly was alive, the?child would crush it in?their?hands so that when?they opened?their hands, the butterfly would be dead.
But, If the?monk said the butterfly was dead, the child would open?their hands and let it fly free.
No matter what the?monk said, the?child would prove the monk wrong.

The following week, the monk came down the mountain into the village, and along the way, villagers lined up to ask their most difficult questions.
The child showed up and asked, “If indeed you are as wise and talented as everyone believes you are, please tell me whether the butterfly in my hand is dead or alive.”
For a moment, it appeared as if the monk was at a loss for words. The child thought the wise old monk cornered.
After a pause, the monk looked straight at the child?and then down at?their closed hand.?The monk slowly shook their head from side to side.
“Child,” said the monk, “whether the butterfly is dead or alive is entirely in your hands. It’s yours to choose.”
Your life is in your own hands, just like the butterfly. What will you do with it?
No matter what has happened in the past or what could happen in the future, as the year comes to a close, recognize you have the power to choose what you do with your life.? There is always a choice.
Remember - Set your life alight and seek out those who fan your flame!
