Happy Holidays!
The Autonomous Robotic Vehicle Project (ARVP), University of Alberta
University of Alberta engineering team that wants to encourage the creative development of autonomous robotic technology
In December, our members devoted themselves to studying for the exam period and subsequently recharged themselves for the new year by spending the winter break with family and friends. Aside from that, ARVP wrapped up the year by reflecting on areas for growth and improvement. Along with revisiting the timelines and goals set for the new year, we brainstormed strategies to maintain our high level of engagement from team members.
January kicked off with excitement as we successfully completed our first pool test of the year. After five months, Arctos returned to the water, resurfacing successfully. ARVP also had the opportunity to tour Copperstone Technologies, gaining valuable industry insights and seeing firsthand how robotics plays a role in hazardous site investigations. We’ve also locked in several upcoming engagements, so keep an eye out for ways to get involved! Additionally, our team is actively pursuing funding through sponsorships and grants to support our initiatives.
As we settle into 2025, we want to wish everyone a Happy New Year. With exciting developments ahead, stay tuned for more updates, and let’s make this a great year for ARVP!

A huge thank you to Copperstone Technologies for hosting ARVP on a tour of their facility! Seeing their innovative robots was both inspiring and insightful. It was an incredible opportunity to learn about real-world applications of robotics in hazardous site investigations and water surveys. Meeting the UAlberta alumni behind these cutting-edge systems made it even more special. We appreciate the time and knowledge shared with us and are looking forward to applying what we’ve learned!
