Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween

"You know, it’s Halloween. I guess everyone’s entitled to one good scare.” - Sheriff Brackett

Here’s an interesting stat.

A recent Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) report suggests around one in five Australians will celebrate Halloween this year – spending an average of $AU93 in the process.?

That figure is actually down on previous years, with the rising cost of living evidently cutting into Aussie candy budgets.

But why do we celebrate Halloween? And who calls it ‘candy’ anyway?

We’ll spare you the history lesson – that’s what Wikipedia is for – but plenty of pundits reckon a combination of Hollywood movies and social media have something to do with it.

It seems many of us are scrolling through videos on Insta and TikTok of candy-hunting Americans ambling down streets festooned with Halloween decorations and wishing we had a bit of that action ourselves.

So is there anything wrong with celebrating Halloween in Australia?

Each to their own, we say.

But it’s also a reminder of just how pervasive American culture is in an island nation located some 15,000 kilometres away.

We watch American movies, we wear American brands, and increasingly we take part in predominantly American cultural activities like Halloween.

Food for thought when you’re doing business around the world and looking to find some common ground.

And a reminder that even if you don’t celebrate Halloween, plenty of Aussies do.

One in five, in fact!

That’s just some real talk from the Hunt + Hawk team, or as we say on a day like today…

Creepin’ it real.

Too busy to scroll?

Here are our top three takeaways:

  • When the going gets tough...

The tough keep going. That's been one of the recurring themes of ?? Sonya V. 's new gym talk video series.

  • Want to increase website traffic?

We did, so we started experimenting. What we learned was there are a few proven ways to increase website traffic - which come with inherent pros and cons.

  • Have you met Sando?

We sat down for a chat with Jarrod Sanderson about why he launched his own mortgage brokerage firm, how he cut his teeth, and why he brought his father into the business.

'Hitting pause is the worst thing you can do'

We all know it's been a bit of a tough slog for businesses in 2024.

But the worst thing you can do is hit the pause button on your marketing and branding activities.

That's the verdict from Hunt + Hawk co-founder and branding expert, ?? Sonya V. .

Want to increase visits to your website?

"Why don’t you write about how we’ve quadrupled total website visits over the past 12 months?" suggested Hunt + Hawk's other co-founder and sales expert, Ryan Devlin ?? .

So that's what we did.

We learned a lot in the process... including around what sort of traffic we wanted to drive to our new website in the first place.

The story behind Sando Finance

Take a read to find out why Sando decided to set out on his own.

?? That's all the tea this Halloween ??

We're off to stock up on 'candy' in case marauding hordes of kids start trying to bang down our office door.

But we'll be back again next month with more of what's going on around Hunt + Hawk HQ.

And if you like what you read... don't forget we create bespoke brand messaging for all of our clients.

If that's something you need a hand with, simply slide into our DMs to start the conversation.

We love helping our clients take their branding, sales, and marketing higher.
