Happy Employee Appreciation Day
Today (March 2nd) is Employee Appreciation Day 2018. While these days, there seems to be a holiday for everything… this one gets me particularly excited. As the name suggests, the holiday is a time when leaders and managers get to celebrate the efforts of their incredible teams.
In this age of technological innovation and disruption, it can be easy to forget the difference that a happy workforce can make to a business. Happy and engaged employees drive productivity and business success – wherever it is found – and should be rewarded in an organization. Culture eats strategy for breakfast and it's amazing how far a little gratitude can go in building a world-class organizational culture. Positive recognition is strongly correlated with productivity and overall business performance. According to a recent study, 69% of employees say they’d work harder if they felt as though their contributions were valued by their employer.
As the economist Paul Krugman says, “Productivity isn't everything, but in the long run, it is almost everything.” What’s good for people is good for business. Value their work, treat them with admiration and watch that respect returned to the company - and most importantly its customers. Employees are the lifeblood of any business and the engine room for innovation and growth. Any day dedicated to their recognition is a good day in my book.
