The Happy Economist - The Skills Gap Edition Issue 1

Good morning!

The Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise announces “The Happy Economist,” a new LinkedIn newsletter providing concise definitions, insights and data to help you better understand (and enjoy!) the ins, outs and intricacies of the U.S. economy.?

?

What will you find here?

  • Clear explanations of important economic concepts.
  • Fun facts and graphics that will make you want to learn more. (Hey, it’s not all about the spreadsheets – we hope to have some fun here, too.)
  • Recommendations for more detailed articles to expand your knowledge.

We’ll spend our time focusing on subjects of particular interest, so you’ll see several issues in a row exploring the same broad topic.?

?

The newsletter debuts as we introduce our annual Grand Challenge, a yearlong deep dive into an important issue for business and the economy. This year’s Grand Challenge?will examine the skills gap, which occurs when the skills that some workers possess no longer match up with the needs of employers. Our 2025 Distinguished Fellows will join us here at the institute and UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School to dig into causes and potential cures. More on this next time!?

?

So join us at “The Happy Economist” for the numbers, the knowledge and a few surprises. Click the “Subscribe” button on this page so you won’t miss a thing!??
