Did you know that Easter eggs are not only finger-licking good? They also seek to surprise us with unexpected jokes.
According to wikipedia "An Easter egg is a message, image, or feature hidden in software, a video game, a film, or another, usually electronic, medium. The term used in this manner was coined around 1979 by Steve Wright, the then-Director of Software Development in the Atari Consumer Division, to describe a hidden message in the Atari video game Adventure, in reference to an Easter egg hunt"
Today we show you the best easter eggs in architecture.
Let's start with a well-known one:
According to the Cathedral.org website "In the 1980s, while the Cathedral's two west towers were being built, the Cathedral held a carving design contest for children. The contest was publicized nationwide through National Geographic World magazine. The third place winner, Christopher Rader, submitted a drawing of that fearsome villain, Darth Vader from Star Wars."
The Jacobin church is renowned for housing the remains of St. Thomas Aquinas, few know that it also houses a curious carving of a person apparently crushed by a column known as "the little crushed man".
The astronaut is the work of the stonemason Miguel Romero. It is an addition made to the frontage of the Salamanca cathedral in 1992 when the process of restoration began.
The design was intended to follow the aesthetics of the cathedral while adding some nods to the contemporary era.
So what do you think about these easter eggs?
