What does Diwali actually mean?
As per our tradition, before Diwali, we clean our house, workplace, offices because want to welcome goddess Laxmi. We clean our homes on every auspicious occasion, but what we actually forget to clean is our heart from all negativity, so that God can reside in our heart. Clean your heart, mind, and body from bad habits and negativity, and allow positivity to enter your heart, to be more loving and kinder.
During Diwali, we light diyas to remove the darkness of the night, but what actually it says is to never forget to remove the darkness from your heart, soul, and mind. It symbolizes to remove unconsciousness, to bring consciousness and wisdom, so as to remove ignorance from within us.
People buy sweets and exchange gifts with friends, colleagues, and also strangers. What it exhibits is that sharing is caring, and we should share whatever extra we have with fewer privileged people. We should share with anyone without being biased and egoistic, as festivals teach us unity and kindness.
We buy new clothes and utensils because it makes us feel good. But the actual message is that it’s never too late to start afresh and make a new beginning. We should never give up. No matter how bad your today is, you always have a chance to make a better tomorrow, as every day is a new beginning with new opportunities to grab.
So, let's value our age-old traditions, and understand the underlying meaning it has.
Let us together uphold our culture and proudly pass it on to our generations.
Happy Diwali.
