A Happy Dad Cried

When my first girl was born, in the wee hours of morn,
In all of that happiness, I cried, but didn’t tell
Twin sons followed, one being loud and one whizzing away
And this dad cried, praying that all would be well
A second baby girl
A little late, but bright-eyed
Another first daughter/dad date.
A dad of four now, I cried.
First day of school, sending them on a bus and away
Who would of thunk it, I cried on that day
Proud moments in life, proud moments at school plays
Taking them to school and looking both ways
Wrestled with the boys and sang to the girls
Sinatra and Elvis, oh the steps and the twirls
Cartoons and movies, they used my leg as they sat
Like birds on a branch, watching Cat in the Hat
Those days gone by, now turned into years
Happy and sad ones with many tears
There will be more days like them, and that’s no guess
Weddings, and grandbabies, now I digress
To be the best dad I could, I tried and tried
To be the happiest and proudest dad, at times, I cried
