HAPPY CONSTITUTION DAY! (9-17)

We celebrate the birth of our country every July 4, but we can and should celebrate the birth of our federal government every September 17. Thirty-nine men signed our federal Constitution on 9-17-1787. It begins: "We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America." The authors intended to form a "more perfect" union. It may still not be perfect all these decades later, however, we have more freedoms in this country than almost anywhere else on earth.
