In combat, peacetime, and training, the U.S. Army is constantly on the move. Every day, even on the 243rd Army Birthday on June 14, 2018, U.S. Army Soldiers are performing combat missions, enforcing the peace, and training new Soldiers for future wars.
Here are 12 operations the US Army did since the last US Army Birthday that reflect the challenge, focus, professionalism, accomplishment, and leadership of US Army soldiers.
- US Army veterans participate in the DOD Warrior Games. The DoD Warrior Games is an adaptive sports competition for wounded, ill and injured service members and veterans. Approximately 300 athletes representing teams from the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Special Operations Command, United Kingdom Armed Forces, Canadian Armed Forces, and the Australian Defense Force.
- The US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is helping hurricane recovery efforts in Puerto Rico. The USACE by taking debris from the hurricane and grinding it into very small pieces to minimize the debris.
- The US Army 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment (2nd ACR) displays new 30mm cannon on Stryker vehicle. The US Army participated in a joint exercise with Polish forces inside of Poland.
- Activation of the second Security Force Assistance Brigade (SFAB) at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. SFABs are specialized units whose core mission is to conduct advise-and-assist operations with allied and partner nations. This is the second of six planned units.
- US Army units are now training to fight and win in subterranean battlefields and underground areas in cities.
- National Guard units are helping in the safety and recovery of citizens living in Hawaii experiencing the eruption of the Mount Kilauea volcano.
- US Army divers are helping recover the remains of servicemembers lost at sea during the Vietnam War off the coast of Vietnam.
- The Montana National Guard is participating in cyber defense training to keep the United States safe from cyber-attacks.
- One of the top female cadets at West Point selects to become an Infantry officer.
- Operation Proper Exit continues. Soldiers wounded in Afghanistan or Iraq can return to the combat zone so they can gain closure and help them deal with life after injury, as well as share their stories with Soldiers in theater.
- The US Army has finally perfected the long-awaited pizza Meal Ready to Eat (MRE).
- The US Army is destroying World War II munitions discovered in Panama.
