Happy Birthday "G"
Tomorrow, August 26th,?would have been my late wife Genevieve’s, or G’s birthday. She would have been 49 years old, having passed away on 11.14.2020 at the young age of 46. I miss her greatly!
If you get the chance, please visit the page for her scholarship fund at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University , Daytona Beach, Florida or buy her book – “Short Stories About a Tall Woman-Remembering Genevieve ” on Amazon. All proceeds from the book sales go to her scholarship supporting causes important to G - and the book is a short read, not about grief but about the LIFE of a unique, beautiful, funny, and quirky young woman.

Chapter 3: Moustaches & Condoms
?
…………We had a few moments to decompress and
get ready for our evening out. We headed out to the
cable car ride, which was on street level, it was a bit
of a chilly evening which was normal for San
Francisco at that time of year.
It was then that G dropped the proverbial
hammer yet again (You will notice this is a recurring
theme and a delightful part of being with her). As we
approach the cable car, G pulled me aside and said,
“There’s just one condition before we go.” My first
reaction is a flashback to our first date and that “one
condition” at Alto Palato. But knowing that luckily
no food is served on the cable car I felt comfortable
in accepting the challenge. And then she tells me ….
“We have to both wear these all night.” She reaches
into her pocket and pulls out two fake, stick-on
handlebar mustaches. My first reaction, was to run,

was she kidding me? I don’t have the confidence to
wear this in public, I probably wouldn’t even do this
at home by myself. Then she smiled at me…… and I
was done! “How do I put this on?” I asked.
Now picture it, we are both wearing fake
mustaches and riding a cable car in San Francisco.
People are staring, some are smiling and some I
suspect, were probably reaching for concealed
weapons. We ride the cable car to the Wharf, have a
few drinks, and even interact with several people.
But we never removed those mustaches. This was so
out of character for me; however, she created that
safety zone. I felt a huge part of who I was to
become, the “New Tony,” part of this remarkable
relationship of T & G, or as we later became known
as G & McB. (To this day I will never truly know
why she referred to me as McB).
We returned to the hotel and the mustaches
eventually came off, and to my surprise, I survived
another “Condition.”
I think I grew as a person and finally found a
soulmate, someone I would come to love
unconditionally, and more than I could ever imagine
loving........
G kept those legendary mustaches and went
so far as to have them incorporated into a picture box
that still hangs on my wall to this day.
