Happy birthday, Aalen University!

Dear readers,

In 1963, the Beatles hit the charts, U.S. President John. F. Kennedy visits Berlin, the first compact audio cassettes come onto the market - and the engineering school is founded in #Aalen. All this is now 60 years ago? The training center for the next generation of engineers has developed into a research-intensive talent factory with five faculties, around 70 innovative study programs and over 5,000 students. The history of #AalenUniversity from its foundation to the present day has been groundbreaking, and in its 60 years it has become an important partner for industry, politics, science and society.

We would like to celebrate this success story! ???? On the page https://www.hs-aalen.de/de/facilities/238 you will find information about what events await us this year, a historical outline of the development of Aalen University and other exciting actions and projects.?? The page will accompany us throughout the year and will be constantly filled with news, pictures and videos.

But we can not only celebrate great ??; we can also do excellent #research ??. After all, Aalen University is one of Germany's strongest research universities for applied sciences. ?? And we want to put that in the spotlight this year: For the anniversary, the online campaign #forschungsstAArk was launched under the coordination of SmartPro Kooperationsnetzwerk . In this campaign, we want to provide new insights into research at Aalen University on #energyefficiency, #climateprotection, #resourceconservation, #digitization, and #health in research stories distributed throughout the year.

It started in February, parallel to #WorldBatteryDay, with a theme week around battery research at #IMFAA - with numerous texts, interviews, and videos highlighting the different facets of the research work. You can find the contributions collected here: https://www.hs-aalen.de/de/pages/forschung-transfer_kampagne-forschungsstaark. ? You’ll also find interviews with two smart colleagues from #TeamIMFAA here on our YouTube channel:?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFxGaqcDFWo and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KkC6csujy8.

In addition, we were also pleased to receive awards, publications and degrees of all kinds from #TeamIMFAA in the past three months. We were particularly pleased about the successful defense of the Ph.D. of Dr.-Ing. Tommy Badmos : The now 30-year-old started as a research assistant at #IMFAA in June 2017 and began his Ph.D. in April 2018. In it, he worked under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Gerhard Schneider and Dr. Timo Bernthaler and with the participation of Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (KIT) on machine learning methods for microstructure and quality assessment of lithium-ion batteries and sintered NdFeB magnets. Today, he works at 阿斯利康 Computational Pathology as Associate Director, Oncology Data Science Platforms. ?? You can read more in the interview here: https://www.hs-aalen.de/de/news/4722.

Congratulations also to Amit Kumar Choudhary and his co-authors Dr. Anoop Kini , Dominic Hohs, Andreas Jansche , Timo Bernthaler , Orsolya Csiszár , Dagmar Goll, and Gerhard Schneider ! Their article, entitled "Machine learning-based Curie temperature prediction for magnetic 14:2:1 phases", was published in AIP Advances (Vol.13, Issue 3). ?? The article is freely available via the following link: https://lnkd.in/eMr7Cu5u.

In addition, we were able to offer a Graduate Seminar again this year: Lectures, pitches, and discussions - but also early morning sports for the fearless, quality time in the vaulted cellar and bowling: The annual graduate seminar of the #TeamIMFAA means concentrated knowledge and fun. ??

Our management team was also regularly in demand as interview partners with expertise from the media. For example, when the largest deposit of rare earths in Europe was found shortly after the start of the new year: What is the significance of the discovery of around one million tons of these critical raw materials in Sweden? Dr. Dagmar Goll and Dr. Gerhard Schneider from the management team of #IMFAA classified the find in an interview with WDR here. ?? https://www1.wdr.de/nachrichten/seltene-erden-fund-schweden-klimawandel-100.html.

Another interview with Dr. Dagmar Goll could be heard on the radio station SWR2 : The approximately 45-minute "SWR2 Forum" roundtable was broadcasted on SWR 2 on February 21 and can be listened to and downloaded here: https://lnkd.in/eC4CFfiY.

We were again active in promoting young talents and were happy to be involved in the supporting program of the "Jugend forscht" competition, for example, and are already looking forward to the Open Campus, Girls' Day, and the many other events coming up in the spring! ??

We are also particularly looking forward to the #HannoverMesse2023 on April 17-21, 2023: We will present selected research and transfer activities around the topics Internet of things (#IoT) and #MachineLearning under the SmartPro Kooperationsnetzwerk umbrella. ??Come by and meet Andreas Jansche , Kishan Sinh Rathod , and Patrick Deeg from #TeamIMFAA! We will attend more trade shows, meetings, and conferences and let you know in time. We look forward to seeing or meeting you again!

???????? Until then, we wish everyone who celebrates it a happy #Easter and altogether a wonderful #spring!

Your #TeamIMFAA
