A Happy Australia Day in Campbelltown, SA
Another beautiful Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony at Campbelltown Function Centre took place yesterday morning, followed by our Citizen of The Year Awards.
It was lovely to have The Campbelltown City Band play for us at the start and the finish as well as during the singing of the national anthem.
Congratulations to all our new citizens taking their oath today. We welcome you into our Campbelltown family and extend our hearty congratulations to you all on taking the final step to becoming an Australian citizen. This special day will remain with you always as a highlight and a reminder that you have chosen the best country in the world to live in.
We were also fortunate indeed to have State and Federal Members of Parliament with us to mark the occasion and participate in the Ceremony. They were: Hon. Christopher Pyne MP, Member for Sturt, Senator Penny Wong, Vincent Tarzia MP, Member for Hartley and Jing Lee MLC.
Joining myself and the Mayor were Councillors John Kennedy, Anna Leombruno, Matt Noble, Rob Tidd and Jill Whittaker. Acting CEO Michelle Hammond, along with staff were on hand to ensure that everything flowed smoothly.
Our Australia Day Ambassador was Phyl Skinner. Just 95 years young, she presented the winners of the Citizen of the Year Awards and had us all well and truly entertained.
Congratulations to the finalists and winners of our 2017 Citizens of the Year. All incredible people, working to make our communities that much better.
Young Citizen of the Year 2017 is Savier D'Arsie-Marquez
Senior Citizen of the Year 2017 is Barbara Portel
Citizen of the Year 2017 was awarded to two people this year. Wendy Bennett and Helen Wadham were so close in merit that we could not separate them. They are 2017 dual winners. Well done everyone!
