Happy Anniversary?
This article contains an excerpt from my blog where I reflect on my fifth year of fatherhood. You can read the entire blog by following this link.
“It’s late. We better get going.
I’ve packed your bag already, go grab your coat, put your shoes on and don’t forget your iPad like last time.
Do you need t-… Your shoes are on the wrong foot. Switch them around quickly
No, the other way…
*15 minutes later*
Ok good, do you need to use the toilet? Are you sure? You just had some water and I think you should try. Are you sure?… … ooookaaaay, I’m just checking. Go say goodbye to everyone.”
I don’t think we walked for more than five minutes before the first debacle arose.
“Daddy, can I get something from the shop”
Hmm. An innocent question maybe, but really this is the beginning of his conniving plan to take another £1.50 from my bank account for a KitKat bar. He thought he had me, but this time I was two steps ahead. I didn’t even break stride as I confidently said no and laid out the constructive reasoning for my decision. Parenting is tough sometimes, but it’s worth it when your child takes on your advice without issue.
Of course, that never happened, I went in the shop and bought the KitKat. £1.50 for a stress-free journey? Sign me up. He can learn about tough love tomorrow.
