Happy 4th July - What if?

As a friend to many Americans, and with a deep interest in their politics and the nation in general, on this 4th?of July holiday?I find myself pondering the tantalising possibilities of a world where the British Empire retained control over it's American colonies and the way in which the two countries could have ushered in an era of prosperity and cultural cohesion.
The Blessing of Stability:
Had America remained a British colony, political stability and continuity would have been the norm. Without the turbulence of a Revolutionary War and subsequent constitutional challenges, a smoother trajectory towards self-governance would likely have ensued. British institutions, such as a parliamentary system and the rule of law, would have become the bedrock of governance, fostering a more stable and harmonious society.
The Abolitionist Legacy:
In this alternate reality, the British Empire's early abolition of the transatlantic slave trade in 1807 and subsequent efforts to end slavery could have influenced the trajectory of American history. Inspired by the British Empire's abolitionist efforts, slavery would have been confronted head-on, diminishing the need for influential figures like Martin Luther King Jr. or Malcolm X. Segregationist policies, such as the Jim Crow laws, would have been absent, fostering a society free from institutional discrimination.
Cultural Fusion and Harmonious Diversity:
Drawing parallels from the (mostly) successful integration of diverse cultures in Canada and Australia, a British-America could have showcased a harmonious coexistence of various ethnicities and backgrounds. The synthesis of British values with those of indigenous communities and waves of immigrants could have led to a distinct and unified identity, celebrating the richness of its multifaceted heritage.
Global Pre-eminence:
With the vast resources and territories of a British-America bolstering the might of the British Empire, its influence on the global stage would have been unparalleled. Such dominance might have altered the course of key historical events, leading to an earlier resolution of global conflicts and a broader dissemination of democratic principles worldwide.

Economic Powerhouse:
The British Empire's mercantile expertise could have positioned a British-America as a formidable economic powerhouse. Access to British markets and resources would have spurred industrialisation, fostering greater economic growth and prosperity. The seamless integration into British trade networks would likely have propelled the colonies towards an accelerated path of economic development.
Shared Prosperity:
The synergy of a British-America within the British Empire could have led to a more equitable distribution of wealth and resources. The British model of social welfare, as seen in Canada and Australia, might have been adopted, ensuring a more inclusive society with greater opportunities for its citizens.
Conclusion:
Whilst we tread the realm of speculation, envisioning a British-America offers a compelling perspective on how history might have unfolded. The similarities evident in modern Canada and Australia hint at the untapped potential that could have flourished in a British-led America. Nevertheless, we should acknowledge that the United States' unique journey towards independence has shaped the world in myriad ways, and we can only marvel at the fascinating tapestry of history as it has unfolded.
Now, who's for a cup of tea...?
