Happy 25th - See you in 25!

25 years ago today, I walked into 1666 K Street NW to join Andersen Consulting.?I thought long and hard what and if I might write as an ode to the 25 years.?Here are some seminal moments, which made all the difference in the world.

·??????Junior year of high school, Mr. Choate introduced me to computer programming – seemed like a fun hobby to experiment with math problems.?

·??????Junior year of college, Dr. Prosperetti stopped his Fluid Mechanics class on his 50th birthday to discuss the meaning of life.?Enjoy what you do, you’ll be doing it for the next 40 years of your life 40 hours a week.

·??????Amidst the snowstorm of 1996, my office visit at Andersen, the DC managing partner recommended that I although I was aligned to Process, I should be in technology. ?

·??????Sitting in the cafeteria on the first day on my project and listening to a colleague talk for 15 minutes straight and thinking wow I think I know everything about her.

·??????Rolling off my first project, amidst a crazy situation, the leadership team did right by me.??I felt a debt of gratitude that I can never repay.

·??????Sitting in the Reston building, and a manager staffed me on his project because we went to the same undergrad - that account was the touchpoint for my career.

·??????Being asked to lead a project that was in trouble and making it a career changing situation by working for a client who went above and beyond.

·??????Sitting in a hotel bar after a challenging client meeting talking to a colleague about what she and I might like to do in the future.?

·??????Having a boss that wanted me to do more and helped paved the way to a new opportunity.

·??????Having a new boss that I’m learning from daily and enjoying what I do.

Each one of these moments, included at least one person who made an significant impact on me.?I’m sure that those individuals had no idea the impact that had on my career.

There are many others in this career journey that I didn’t note – the Friday Hopefuls, the hudsters, postal crew, civilian, my erg crew, and many others.?I cherish them all.?
