Happy 244th Birthday, U.S. Navy

The Navy celebrates its 244th birthday this Sunday, October 13, 2019.

It is nothing short of remarkable how nearly 500,000 U.S. Sailors work together and with our fellow services and allies to defend not just our own country, but all countries that value freedom of the oceans.

Of course, those service members depend heavily on the support of friends and loved ones to carry out their duties. Never forget the role that Military Families—as a whole—play in the success of our armed forces.

Our Navy is one of the most technologically advanced fighting forces in history, pushing cutting edge improvements in everything from medicine to robotics to cyber-security. It is indeed one of the clearest reasons for raising the educational bar for our kids’ and for supporting them and their teachers in reaching those goals. Today’s students are tomorrow’s Navy.  

Few things have had such a profound impact on my life as my own Navy experience. The travel, training, and friendships were truly memorable. But more important were lessons about service and an appreciation for how much has been given by so many in the defense of our nation and our values.
