Happiness Is Not The Purpose

The purpose of your life is NOT to be happy.
Are you going to continue to read?
Maybe a shocker, right?
Hedonism is rampant in today's world (look the word up if you need to).
Your purpose in this lifetime is to be useful.
To make a difference.
To leave an impact when YOU leave.
To be honorable. Meaning that you do what you're here to do, and you do what you say you're going to do. Even when it's hard and hurts.
When you're honest you'll have to admit that life has proven time and again that the endless pursuit of pleasure does nothing more than bringing more corresponding pain.
Pleasure and pain are in an endless and equal dance in this Universe, and it cannot be otherwise.
The wild night out makes you "happy." The hangover the next morning makes you miserable.
The comfort food makes you "happy." The muffin top over your jeans makes you feel inadequate and uncomfortable.
The new car makes you "happy." The endless payments and upkeep, as well as the first scratch or dent, make you frustrated.
I can't tell you how many of my coaching clients tell me, "James I JUST want to be happy." (emphasis on the word "just" is mine.)
There is no such thing as JUST happy.
The master embraces BOTH pain and pleasure in the pursuit of purpose.
Trying to just be constantly happy is like trying to hold onto a fist full of mist. You can't do it.
Pursue fulfillment.
In order to keep this brief, I'll reel it back here. We can talk more about what fulfillment means and how it differs from happiness later.
But what I assure you is that fulfillment can be present in a space where happiness does not exist.
Have a productive day.
All those things you think are going to make you "happy" that don't apply to fulfilling your purpose JUST WON'T.

It is already there, I just have to chisel away the superfluous material.” We all have greatness in us, but we all have a lot of superfluous material around, it. Some of us are choosing to add more instead of chipping away. I have found my purpose, and the quest to realize it is not easy, not fun but it is fulfilling and I wouldn't give it up for anything!
