Happiness Over Everything: Rethinking Success Criteria?

Happiness Over Everything: Rethinking Success Criteria?

The Power of 2 Minutes - Daily Motivation #283 ( 25th March 2024)

Success comes in many forms. For me, it's a combination of factors: writing daily articles (The Power of 2 Minutes), exceeding sales goals, and helping others. And that's where networking comes in!

Happiness is my definition of success. I achieve this through three main activities:

  1. Writing Daily Articles: These articles are inspired by discussions and contributions from my network.
  2. Achieving My Goal: I leverage my Abilities, Skills, and Knowledge (ASK) to achieve work goals.
  3. Helping Others: I use my abilities to solve problems for my connections, with no expectation of return.

A strong network goes beyond just connecting with similar people.

To achieve my goals, I need a diverse network:

  • Content Contributors: These connections provide ideas and feedback for my articles.
  • Sales Support: Connections in the "SMART solutions" field can be valuable resources.
  • Corporate Network: Building relationships with a wide range of professionals is beneficial.
  • Volunteer Network: Giving back through volunteering allows me to connect with others through a service-oriented approach.

Honesty is the cornerstone of networking. Building trust takes time, but it's essential for developing long-lasting connections.
Networking isn't limited to face-to-face interactions or online platforms. Anyone can be a potential connection:

  • Fellow commuters on public transportation
  • Passengers waiting for flights

Once you've built your network, categorize your connections for better management.

  • Friends & Family: These connections know you personally and are familiar with your family.
  • Professional Network: Connect on professional platforms like LinkedIn.
  • Social Network: Connect on social media platforms for casual interactions.

  • Access to Opportunities: A strong network opens doors to new possibilities.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Learn from others and share your own expertise.
  • Mutual Support: Build a network of people who can provide help and encouragement.

  • Active Listening: Pay close attention to what others are saying.
  • Building Rapport: Find common ground and build genuine connections.
  • Following Up: Maintain contact with your network through regular communication.
  • Value Creation: Focus on how you can benefit others, not just yourself.

  • Online Course: "The Art of Networking" by Udemy
  • YouTube Channel: "Vanessa Van Edwards" - Explores social skills, body language, and charisma
  • Podcast: "How to Win Friends and Influence People" - Based on the classic book by Dale Carnegie

Note: This daily newsletter reflects my personal views, with the sole intention of helping each other grow. I'm always happy to discuss and hear your perspectives!
