Happiness, the only goal.
?In an interesting session earlier this week with few young women professionals, one of the participants asked me how do I manage the days when I am not in control of situation, does it make me jittery?
?As I reflected, I feel this is predominantly, because of our conditioning since elementary school to a corporate job, we are taught to be in control and just be the best, best rank, high bonuses, picture perfect social media profile and the list goes on. And when our situations are in not in our control, we get frustrated and start feeling low.
?Seeing people having anxiety and anger attacks on loosing a client, child’s bad score card, traffic chaos or as basic as food not being of our taste is a common phenomenon. Basically, anything where the result is out of our control, gives us jitters.
On the contrary, won’t it be boring if you get up in the morning and you know exactly how each moment of a day would be, there will be no fun of surprise left.
To add to the woes, we are trained and taught by everyone around us that it is not ok to feel low and express your feelings as you will out of control.
Fundamentally, we all are wanting to excel in everything we do and we more often than not look down at people with average performance. Do we appreciate how much energy consuming it is to always perform at best of one’s ability. Even the machines give up if they are run at full capacity regularly for they need a maintenance and a shutdown every now and then.

In reality, attaching ourselves to the outcome of our actions is key reason which is adding to our misery and makes us more and more depressed. ?
?As Bhagwad Gita says, we need to just do our actions (Karma) but not get attached to the results, for that is where path to happiness lies.

(You have a right to “Karma” (actions) but never to any Fruits thereof. You should never be motivated by the results of your actions, nor should there be any attachment in not doing your prescribed activities.)
?I have just penned down a small poem with these sentiments, do share your thoughts/comments

1 年This is a wonderful and insightful post that touches upon the common issue of feeling anxious and frustrated when things don't go according to our expectations. You have done an excellent job of highlighting how our conditioning since childhood and societal pressures to always be in control and excel in everything we do can add to our misery.? This post also encourages us to detach ourselves from the outcome of our actions and focus on the present moment instead of worrying about the future. The Bhagwad Gita quote is a perfect way to sum up the post's message and shows how ancient wisdom can still be applicable to our modern lives. Overall, a great post that encourages us to reframe our mindset and find happiness in the journey instead of just the destination.
