At the end of the day, we don't want more money. We want to be happier.

The pursuit of happiness movie is one of the best movies I have ever watch. In this movie a single father Chris Gardner evicted from their apartment, he and his young son find themselves alone with no place to go... In history, many studies, movies, and videos have been published on that topic. Yet it is always trending. A topic that makes even more sense especially in this quarantine period. Everyone might want to redefine what happiness is for them during this loneliness time. Such a topic can imply a huge debate because happiness varies according to a specific person. In any case, I believe happiness is the only goal that we are seeking forever. No, we are not seeking money. Even though we might seemingly be looking for it and think that this is our purpose. I think that the pursuit of happiness is the ultimate goal for humans. For instance, people may quit their job, not necessarily to earn more money, but because they do not feel fulfilled anymore. People buy houses, cars, get married, have kids, travel around the world only to be happy.
Money doesn't buy happiness. This is a well-known saying. From a certain perspective yes. If you have the money, you can buy the latest Ferrari, live in a mansion with maids, travel to a different country every month, buy luxury jewels you have always dreamed of. You can still feel unhappy. In fact, so many rich celebrities wouldn't commit suicide if money could buy happiness considering that they have it all. Because we live in the capitalist system, where commercials and ads make us think that getting this latest iPhone or clothe will finally make us comfortable and happy. They make you think that you will finally want to wake up every morning and get out of your bed. You will be excited and able to live the life you have always wanted if you buy this new house or by driving this brand new car. When we purchase a new item, we feel good about it because dopamine fills in our brains. Unfortunately, it is a temporary feeling which will soon vanish away.
Ultimately, the concept of happiness is not one-size-fits-all. For some people happiness is having a family with plenty of kids, for others is being able to buy the latest Mercedes. It varies from a person to another. I think every one of us defines our happiness in the function of the childhood we had, the type of education we received, our culture, and the faith we have. But I am sure of one thing: happiness is tied to your view about life and expectations. Most of the time we need money to acquire what we define as our happiness. But clearly the final goal is not to have money but to use the money to be happy.
Happiness can be a state of mind. We want to enjoy life. We go to the club to hang out and have fun. We like to party a: rich or poor, we do it in a different way according to our means. We are inclined to do anything that makes us feel good or be happy, including sex. Money is usually a means to get this type of happiness. However, the unfortunate and the needy can also be happy. Someone living in a mansion full of food can be really sad despite the abundance. Conversely, someone eating bread and peanut butter in a bungalow can be happy because happiness is a state of mind. It is about being grateful for what you have the privilege to have. In a nutshell, the secret of happiness is contentment.
In conclusion, McDonald's, Walt Disney, the airlines, all the big brands that you wear as clothes wants you to be happy. This is in reality why they want to sell you via their products...Our life is all about the pursuit of happiness. In fact, we don't want more money in reality. Kevin Shen in his youtube video shared four equations that sum up a decade worth of research on the topic of happiness. I am sharing two of them with you here: 1) Happiness is the perception of the events of your life minus the expectations of how life should behave 2) Happiness is accepting of what is divided by the fact we want to control what we cannot change…... At the end of the day, we are not looking for more money, we are looking for better means to be happier.
Tell me in the comment what you think about this and how do you pursue happiness in this world?

4 年Happiness is something we are always seeking, but never find because it is within us. It isn’t something that is “out there”. Sure, we may feel happy when we achieve something that we think will bring us happiness, but often, that feeling disappears and we start the process all over again of “searching”. Great article!! There is a book called “The Greatest Secret” that is on the same lines as this article ....
