World Happiness Day 2021

In these still challenging days one has to look hard to find good, positive news that give confidence and warmth.

But they are out there. Hundreds of thousands of nurses and doctors globally are there to take care of the so many that are seriously ill. You live in a peaceful society and have light, heat and food. The spring flowers are popping out everywhere (at least here in the Nordic region). The warm rays of the sun blesses us with days that are longer than last week. Yes, there are many wonders and reasons why we can be grateful.

As humans we will hopefully come through the global crisis as more clever, understanding and compassionate. Closer. People will hopefully learn what it means to be “close” and what it means to be “apart”, “divided”. Think about what you want to be able to tell your grandchildren what you did during the Corona Crisis? It's up to you to define the story. That is also very good news. You and everyone are all part of the solution to get through this.

Today March 20 2021 is also a special day, because it is the United Nations International Day of Happiness. Now this is probably a very unknown celebration day for most, including myself until last year. So I put it in my calendar thinking, "I'll remind everyone to be happy on the 20th of March 2021". As the day approached, I have had second thoughts, but wanted to try to spread some positivity anyway.

The International Day of Happiness is celebrated worldwide every year on 20 March and was originally conceptualized and founded by the in 2006 to advance happiness as a fundamental human right for all human beings, and happytalism (what a fantastic word!) as new economic system, theory and philosophy. The 2020 International Day of Happiness campaign theme is “Happiness For All, Together”. Now, I know this is not going to happen this year (and it will not hit the 9’o clock news), but it is a great dream and vision. And if we all do something good for someone else, then tomorrow will be a better place. If you think “I can do nothing”, then you are wrong, One thing we can all do today, and all days in the coming weeks, is to stay 6 feet away from other people - every day all the time. As humans, stay together by keeping a distance.

Together & Apart we stand, United & Close we Fall, Divided we Fail.

I am sure everyone can find at least 5 things in their lives right now that are truly wonders of life, worthwhile cherishing, celebrating and being grateful for. Even in these days that give us so much unhappiness. Before you go to bed tonight be grateful for the good things that are actually happening in our World and be the change you can.

Happy Friday, everyone, everywhere. Happy 20th of March.
