“When I get a promotion, then I will be happy.”
“If only s/he didn’t work here, then I would be happy.”
It’s so easy to drift into this territory of relying on someone else to allow us permission to feel in a positive state of mind, or for them to screw it up.
“Never put the key to your happiness in someone else’s pocket.”
When we do this, it becomes harder to take actions towards our dreams. It’s as if we’re sitting in the backseat waiting for the situation to open doors for us.
Rather, happiness if not reliant on a “if-then” formula.
Another misconception is that in order to be successful, we have to postpone or sacrifice our happiness.
Which isn’t the case.
Happiness doesn’t need to be some far-off or hard to reach goal; Happiness can be found right in front of you.
Happiness is a mindset that can be felt at any given moment – something to reframe our mentality to appreciate when available.
CEO Jeff Weiner shared 5 keys to success and happiness, they are:
- Be in the moment
- It’s better to be kind than to be right
- Observe your thoughts, especially when you become emotional
- Find a bit of happiness everyday
- Be of service to others
When happiness is accepted, we approach life from an empowered state of mind (productive, satisfied, willing, or eager) compared to a weakened state of mind (hesitant, upset, or irrational).
With this, people may be intimidated by your happiness and try to tear you down. If this happens, remember that it’s a reflection of their weakness.
Maintain your own happiness while trying not to cause any unhappiness for someone else and take the time to find a bit of happiness in everything that you do.
