And then it happened to me...

And then it happened to me...

During a previous period of economic uncertainty, my talented sister (Julie Desmond) and I created a workshop for people who didn't expect to lose their jobs. We connected them to each other, helped them articulate their strengths, and provided a proven path to the next great adventure. Our mission was that they leave feeling uplifted and energized. The outcome was that they all landed just fine.

I have coached and connected countless amazing professionals during the hard period of unwanted transition. I tell friends that I do job search as a sport. I always hope to be a spark of energy and optimism - to convey the most important message of the moment. Take a breath. This time is a gift. You will land. Reach out.

?And then it happened to me...

The 8 am "quick meeting" suddenly pops up on my calendar. The robotic reading of the official message. The pit in my stomach - Wait, ME?

I hung up the phone and sat there: wishing I had been warned, wishing we weren't trying to buy a house. Wishing the experience had even a hint of humanity to it. For about a minute, then that was that.

?A deep breath and then. This time is a gift. I will land. I will reach out. And that's what I've done. So far it's a journey of exploration and affirmation. I'm so grateful for the championing energy of my various circles. Grateful for the humanity and support.

?On behalf of anyone who will receive this unrequested gift, thank you to all who are taking our calls and sharing your contacts. If it's your world that has been rocked remember: take a breath, this time is a gift, you will land. Reach out.

I’ve been there. And then YOU’ve been there with your welcoming spirit and desire to help make connections. I want to do the same for you. I am here to offer connection, friendship, encouragement … as you so often have done for me and so many others. May the many ways that you have helped others return to you in abundance!

I've been in that boat for about a month. My husband is working from home. It's kept me on a loose schedule. Definitely taking better care of myself.
