Hanna urges fellow pros and amateurs to enter St. James’s Place National Pro-Am

Former PGA Captain?Peter Hanna?has urged fellow PGA Members and golf clubs to sign up for the eagerly anticipated St. James’s Place National Pro-Am.

Thousands of golfers from across the UK and Ireland are expected to compete in Europe’s largest pro-am, which returns in 2022 with a new sponsor – St. James’s Place.

One club already entered this year is Lurgan, situated close to Belfast, which is home to Hanna, the club’s Head Professional.

Hanna has been a big advocate of the National Pro-Am for a number of years and is looking forward to taking part again in 2022.

“I have always entered the event, maybe for the last 30 years through my time at both Fortwilliam and now Lurgan,” said Hanna, who was Captain of The PGA from 2019 to 2021.

“I still like to compete a little and the St. James’s Place National Pro-Am allows me to do that in a relaxed event with a member of the club.

“We run the event in conjunction with our Fred Daly Memorial Tournament, so it is advertised on the event starting page. I have also emailed all members regarding the date of the event and the new entry format.”

On offer for amateurs who win their club qualifier and then successfully partner their PGA Professional to victory in one of 12 spectacular Regional Finals, is

an all-expenses paid trip to Turkey for the Grand Final.

The five-star venue in Belek will welcome all 12 Regional Final winners, who will compete over 36 holes on the PGA Sultan course to determine the St. James’s Place National Pro-Am winners.

Hanna continued: “For us club pros winning the St. James’s Place National Pro-Am would be a career highlight. I've tried for all these years and never made it yet; I think third spot in the Regional Final is my best result.

“The PGA National in Turkey is a wonderful course with a great hotel and the excitement of the event and the chance to win a few pounds is something we normally only dream about.”

Hanna has a clear message to his fellow pros and amateurs. He added: “It’s a good way to promote yourself within the club and it’s always great fun playing alongside the amateur who qualifies, before and after the event.

“For the amateurs, if you are fortunate to qualify you are in for a real treat - if you make the final in Turkey, it will be like playing in the Open Championship!”

The first step is for golf clubs to set a date for their qualifying round and enter one of 12 Regional Finals.
