Hang on, you'll make it!
The Founders that craft their Ventures at Eastern Innovation can often be heard telling each other to hang in there as their workloads, clients, tasks and demands cause them to feel like they are out of control.
Sometimes it feels as Alex Marquez did at the Japanese MotoGP - we're going fast, something slips and all we can do is hang on.
Alex Marquez is obviously a master. He didn't save the situation with sheer luck. Hours of preparation, training and support coalesced into his spectacular save.
As we barrel toward the end of the year (we call it the silly season for a reason) there may be moments when you'll feel out of control. Take some time to review your own masterful skills so that you too can pull out something spectacular under pressure.
Here are a few tips for you:
- Nominate a mentor this month to help you with your current sticky, or worrying problem. Prepare a list of possible solutions and get some advice on how you might approach the best solution.
- Consider outsourcing something on a three month trial - to be reviewed at the start of next year. This will minimise your commitment and ensure the expectations of both parties are realistic and fair.
- Find or reconnect with your tribe. Spend time with people who understand you. This is immensely comforting. Ask your tribe to be "on tap" when need a download between now and Christmas. (We have a tribe of achievers at EI, come along and meet them - they'll get you!)
- Choose one thing to dump. It might be the annual Card-write session, or that obligatory party attendance. It's that thing that you hate doing every year - just dump it.
- Book that relax session early (massage, recharge session, spa appointment) and don't miss the appointment.
- Make a list of the cool and rad skills you have. Keep it on hand to read when you get hard on yourself.
We know you've heard it many times before - life and success are a journey, not a destination. Things get hard, then they ease. It's a never ending cycle. We like to think ageing and developing wisdom isn't avoiding chaos but recognising the signs earlier and putting steps into place to minimise the pain.
Hang in there, surround yourself with the right people and the right reminders and you'll make it.
