Hands Up!
5 tips for a successful remote meet up...
As another week draws to a close and we prepare for the next, it's time to check in for our weekly 'keeping in touch' meeting. The team is growing on a weekly basis and we are now at 11 of us on the call! Things have the potential to get a bit chaotic and noisy, but not with this lot! we have perfected the art of civilised remote meet up's (that doesn't include the online work quiz night social!)
We wanted to share a few of our principles to hosting the perfect online gathering! so here are 5 tips to a successful remote meet-up... Just look at those happy faces :)
1) Appoint a host to facilitate the meeting, the host will be responsible for keeping the discussions on track, timely and relevant to topic. This isn't always our leader, anyone can play host if you adopt these principles.
2) Set an agenda. Meetings have a tendency to veer off topic quite easily, with a set agenda of key points/topics, these can be discussed in a focused and structured way, with the host pulling the discussions back in topic if they go awry.
3) Allow enough time for the meeting! nothing worse than being rushed, you'll only end up having to book a meeting for the points that were missed or not concluded because you ran out of time. Ensure that the meeting duration will allow enough time to cover every topic to be discussed and for everyone to contribute to the discussion.
4) "You're on mute!"... It is a good idea to pop yourself on mute when you are not speaking, this will cut down on any peripheral unwanted interference and noise and ensure that the quality of what you are hearing is more clear and reduce any chance of echo...echo...echo...!
5) 'Hands up!'... To avoid any confusion, people talking at the same time and as a result, patches in the sound, use the 'raise your hand' button! It's a polite and easy way to get your say without having to jump in and raise your voice. The raise your hand feature enables the host to hand the baton to the next speaker, keeping it all very structured and civilised.
Bonus Tip! A lovely little touch we've added is a little fine for anyone who starts to speak whilst on mute, if they receive a "YOU'RE ON MUTE" from anyone, its a fine! a contribution to the charity box! DISCLAIMER... this is not mandatory!
